Basketball, volleyball and racquetball are all Y inventions. The Auburn Y’s History Committee unearthed these stories about the creation of these sports. Basketball was invented at the YMCA in Springfield, Mass. in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a clergyman, educator and physician. Naismith went on to found the University of Kansas basketball program. The original rules of basketball, written by Naismith currently reside at the Booth Family Hall of Athletics inside Allen Field House in Lawrence, KS.
London has become the first city to have hosted three Games as of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The United States has hosted a total of eight Olympic Games, more than any other country, followed by France with five editions. Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom have each hosted three Games.
